About Economic Development
The SBLGA's Economic Development Office was established in 1998. The position is jointly funded by the South Burnett Local Government Association and the Queensland Department of State Development. It exists to further economic development across all the South Burnett's six shires and the Cherbourg Community Council.

For businesses or industries considering locating, diversifying or expanding into the South Burnett, the region already offers a number of outstanding competitive advantages. These include:

  • Good road access to the growing population centres of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Wide Bay
  • Significant co-operation between the region's Shires
  • Environmental diversity
  • A relatively large population within a compact area
  • A well established service, utility, recreation and social infrastructure
  • A strong primary industry base with fertile soils and climatic conditions highly suited to the production of a wide range of agricultural and horticultural products
  • A stable social environment
  • A growing population
  • A visually attractive physical environment for both residents and visitors
  • A high standard of educational facilities within region including pre-schools, primary schools, high schools and a TAFE college
  • Residential, industrial and agricultural land available at reasonable rates
  • An emerging tourism industry with enormous potential for future growth
  • High quality local-call Internet access throughout the region

The Economic Development Office also helps to identify opportunities for existing businesses located within the South Burnett. This can include helping local businesses obtain funding for new ventures; helping them overcome development obstacles; introducing them to potential joint venture partners; providing access to appropriate training and resources; and helping to identify new and profitable markets for their products or services.
